I’ve been producing a bit of small work lately, in response to recent preparations for my April exhibit. The paintings completed for the show are mostly large, some being panoramic in proportion. The larger a work is, the less spontaneity it seems to carry. Small work, on the other hand, has a fresh, loose feeling of honesty that holds the work together. This offsets the lack of detail, and brushwork that the larger work has going for it. I do think that several of the larger scale paintings in the show have successfully carried the style of these small works.
